Baseball Recap: Gilbert Victorious

While Gilbert didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They walked away with an 8-3 win over the ALA - Gilbert North Eagles on Wednesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Tigers.

Thatcher Johnson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Tyler Silvestre was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Wilfredo Aviles IV, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Gilbert was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as ALA - Gilbert North only posted a batting average of .250.

Gilbert's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for ALA - Gilbert North, the defeat snapped their winning streak at seven games and leaves them with a 7-2 record.

Looking ahead, Gilbert will be playing in front of their home fans against Dobson at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Mustangs have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 12.7 runs per game on average), something the Tigers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for ALA - Gilbert North, they are taking a road trip to square off against Deer Valley at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday.
