Baseball Recap: Manchester Gets the Win

Manchester's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the North Adams Green Devils by a score of 6-3. The win continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their matchups with the Green Devils: they've now won five in a row.

Luke Applegate was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 16 over 5.2 innings pitched. Those 16 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and two runs. Manchester is 4-1 when Applegate posts two or more runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

In other batting news, Traevyn Hilderbrand was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. He has become a key player for Manchester: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise.

Manchester's victory bumped their record up to 6-4. As for North Adams, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Manchester will challenge Fayetteville-Perry at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for North Adams, they will take on South Point at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
