Softball Game Recap: Penn Cambria Panthers vs. Forest Hills Rangers

Penn Cambria had lost ten straight on the road, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 6-14 to make it 11. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (10-0), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, their shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

As for Forest Hills, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 16-1. Considering they have won nine games by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Forest Hills' part, Avery Smiach made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Smiach has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ana Spangler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Aivah Maul was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Penn Cambria does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Forest Hills, they will take on Meyersdale at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
