Baseball Recap: Colorado Springs Christian Gets the Win

While Colorado Springs Christian's victory against Sierra wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lions had just enough and edged out the Stallions 12-11. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lions' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Austin Leigh made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

In other batting news, Colorado Springs Christian got a massive performance out of Jace Velasquez, who scored three runs and stole six bases while going 3-for-4. Those six stolen bases gave Velasquez a new career-high. Britton Thompson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Colorado Springs Christian's record now sits at 2-3. As for Sierra, they are on a 17-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Looking ahead, Colorado Springs Christian will head out to challenge Florence at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Sierra, they will welcome Palmer at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Stallions are facing the Terrors at the right time seeing as the Terrors are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
