Baseball Recap: Hickory Now 4-1 over Last Five Games

Hickory proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let the Cape Henry Collegiate Dolphins get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. For the Hawks, this counts as revenge for the 7-5 win the Dolphins walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

The result came thanks to Jake Cozart's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up 11 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hickory saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Kennedy, who went 1-for-2 with one run.

Hickory is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8.

Looking ahead, Hickory will head out on the road to challenge King's Fork at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Cape Henry Collegiate, they will challenge Cox at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
