NAPLES, Fla. - The defense did their part on the scoring end for for
Gulf Coast (Naples, Fla.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Sharks upset
Estero (Fla.) 36-19.
After taking the lead on a
Cody Long touchdown pass to
Robert Starling, the Wildcats went into halftime with a 13-3 lead. The Sharks scored the winning points with a
Gage Rion touchdown run that came in the third quarter.
The result came as a big surprise as Estero came in ranked No. 276 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for Florida, while Gulf Coast was ranked No. 332.
The victory was a step in the right direction for GC, which was coming off a 35-14 defeat at the hands of Immokalee in its previous game. The victory ended Gulf Coast's two-game losing streak. The loss was the third in a row for EHS.
