Recap: Sage Ridge Scorpions vs. Smith Valley Bulldogs
After losing to the Smith Valley Bulldogs the last time they met, the Sage Ridge Scorpions decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. Sage Ridge narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Smith Valley 50-47. The win made it back-to-back wins for Sage Ridge.
Sage Ridge was led to victory by Beatrice Liwanag and Sophia Soran. Liwanag scored 20 points along with six steals, while Soran dropped a triple-double on 21 points, 19 rebounds, and ten steals. That makes it ten consecutive games in which Soran has scored at least a third of Sage Ridge's points.
When it comes to explaining why Smith Valley lost on Friday, one person who can't be blamed is Teagan York. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points York has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruby DeChambeau, who scored 12 points.
Sage Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. As for Smith Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 8-11.
Sage Ridge will look to defend their home court on Monday against Pyramid Lake at 6:00 p.m. One thing working in Pyramid Lake's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches. As for Smith Valley, they won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Virginia City at 4:00 p.m. on February 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nevada (Virginia City is ranked 89th, while Smith Valley is ranked 77th).
