Softball Recap: Dan River Wildcats vs. Gretna Hawks
After flying high against Bassett last Wednesday, Dan River came back down to earth. The Wildcats fell 6-3 to the Gretna Hawks on Monday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hawks apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
Bayleigh Merricks was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Kenley Cundiff, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Dan River's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Gretna, the victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-4.
Looking ahead, Dan River will face off against Chatham at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cavaliers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Gretna, they will square off against Altavista at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
