Softball Recap: Melrose Beats Sauk Centre for Their Tenth Straight Victory

Melrose extended their winning streak to ten on Tuesday, bumping their season record up to 10-0 in the process. They blew past the Sauk Centre Mainstreeters 8-2. Considering the Dutchmen have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ellie Grieve spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Allie Hoppe was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Klasen, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Sauk Centre, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

On Sauk Centre's side, Sienna Klaphake was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Melrose will take on rival Morris Area/Chokio-Alberta at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Dutchmen 1.7, the Tigers 0.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Sauk Centre is set to square off against their familiar foe B O L D at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
