Basketball Recap: Dunbar Takes a Loss

On Friday, the Dunbar Tigers were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-47 to the Newsome Wolves. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 297th, while the Wolves are ranked 79th).

Despite the defeat, Dunbar saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kristian Joseph made all 5 shots he took to post 13 points. Marcus Lauriston was another key player, putting up six points.

Dunbar has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season. As for Newsome, the win keeps them at an undefeated 12-0.

Dunbar will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Cape Coral at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Dunbar is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61 points per game this season. After both having extra time off, Newsome and Sumner will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 8:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. One thing working in Sumner's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
