Football Recap: Yulee Falls Short of West Florida in the Playoffs

Yulee and West Florida squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Yulee had to settle for second. They took a 24-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Jaguars. The Hornets gained 86 more yards on the day, but it was the Jaguars that made the best use of them.

Yulee lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Preston Matricardi, who picked up 127 receiving yards and one touchdown. Jackson Visconti was another key player, having thrown for 289 yards and onetouchdown.

A big part of West Florida's win came down to the chemistry between Xavier Finley and his top target Dane Elliott. Finley rushed for 71 yards and one TD while Elliott picked up 103 receiving yards.

Yulee's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-3. As for West Florida, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 7-4.

Yulee does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Florida, they will take on Raines at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The Jaguars will need to watch out since the Vikings have now posted at least 31 points in their last four games.
