Softball Recap: Justin Garza Extends Winning Streak to Eight

While Justin Garza didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over the Fresno Christian Eagles on Thursday. The win was just business as usual for the Guardians, who after eight games remain undefeated this season.

Gracie Uribe made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one double. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, Justin Garza got a massive performance out of Harmony Cook, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs Cook has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Riley Nason, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.

Justin Garza was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .545. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Justin Garza pushed their record up to 8-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.7 runs. As for Fresno Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.

Looking ahead, Justin Garza will be playing in front of their home fans against Caruthers at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Fresno Christian, it'll be a Battle of the Birds when Fresno Christian Eagles challenge Liberty Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. They have given up an average of 12 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
