Basketball Game Preview: Mildred Eagles vs. Normangee Panthers

The Mildred Eagles will face off against the Normangee Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mildred is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

Mildred is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They snuck past Axtell with a 50-44 win.

Mildred's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brennan Moore, who dropped a double-double with 11 points and 15 boards. Moore is becoming a predictor of Mildred's success: when he posts at least eight rebounds the team is 17-5 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Ovalle, who posted eight points.

Fans were treated to a battle of the Panthers on Tuesday. Normangee took down Alba-Golden 65-51. Given Normangee's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 553rd, while Alba-Golden is ranked 1266th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mildred pushed their record up to 19-8 with the win, which was their eighth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.1 points over those games. As for Normangee, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 21 of their last 23 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 27-4 record this season.
