Baseball Recap: Pomperaug Panthers vs. New Fairfield Rebels

Pomperaug had lost nine straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-7 to make it ten. They fell just short of the New Fairfield Rebels by a score of 8-7. The Panthers were not able to make up for their loss to the Rebels from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Dom Creaco made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Zach Johnson, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

As for New Fairfield, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-5. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games.

On New Fairfield's side, they got a great performance from Brendan Gaska as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up five earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Gaska has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Andrew Dossena, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Law Roccamo was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
