Softball Recap: Hoover Wins High-Profile Matchup Against Independence

Hoover faced Independence in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Huskies' pitcher stepped up to hand the Patriots an 8-0 shutout. The Huskies haven't had any issues with the Patriots recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive win against them.

Hannah Shamblin made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sadi Wehrle, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season. Ayva Veltri was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two runs.

Hoover was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Independence only posted a batting average of .182.

Hoover's record now sits at 12-3. As for Independence, their defeat dropped their record down to 14-6.

Coming up, Hoover will welcome George Washington at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Patriots have averaged an impressive 8.6 runs per game this season. As for Independence, they will venture away from home to face off against Sissonville at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
