Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clay). They blew past the Springfield Blue Devils 75-47 on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.
Clay's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brynn Reiter, who posted 20 points along with seven steals and five rebounds. Reiter continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Tori Cousino, who earned 16 points and six steals.
Springfield's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hannah Schlacter, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and ten boards. Schlacter is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Tessa Troutman was another key player, putting up seven points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.
Clay's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-10. As for Springfield, their defeat was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-13.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clay will face off against Southview at 7:15 p.m. on January 23rd. Clay has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Springfield, they will challenge Archbold at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday. Archbold will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Springfield surely won't give up without a fight.
