Preview: Alameda Pirates vs. Evergreen Cougars
Alameda is 0-3 against Evergreen since February of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Alameda Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Evergreen Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Alameda suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were dealt a 50-22 loss at the hands of Pomona. Alameda has not had much luck with Pomona recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Lupita Solis put forth a good effort for the losing side as she scored 12 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Evergreen's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell to Bear Creek 49-45. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Evergreen came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while Bear Creek is ranked 154th).
Alameda bumped their record down to 2-7 with that loss, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 25.8 points per game. As for Evergreen, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season.
Alameda was dealt a bruising 60-25 loss at the hands of Evergreen in their previous matchup back in January of 2023.
