Softball Recap: Malakoff Gets the Win

Malakoff proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by 19) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out the Edgewood Bulldogs 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since February 27th.

Alabama Anding was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kensley Oglesby, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Kenna Bivins also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Malakoff lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Malakoff's record is now 15-7. As for Edgewood, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 14-6.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Malakoff is set to square off against their familiar foe Eustace at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Edgewood will take on rival Grand Saline at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
