Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Comes Up Short

St. Mary was the 54-50 winner over Half Moon Bay when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The St. Mary's Rams fell just short of the Half Moon Bay Cougars by a score of 71-68 on Thursday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (63), the Rams still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, St. Mary's still got an impressive performance from Jonah Millonida, who went 9 for 14 on his way to 22 points. Millonida continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. William Weathington was another key player, going 5 for 12 on his way to 12 points.

This is the second loss in a row for St. Mary's and nudges their season record down to 5-7. As for Half Moon Bay, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-1.

St. Mary's and North Monterey County will face off at 11:00 a.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Half Moon Bay, they will venture away from home to square off against Menlo School at 3:00 p.m. on January 4, 2025. One thing working in Half Moon Bay's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
