Softball Recap: Walled Lake Central Takes a Loss

Walled Lake Central came into this matchup off a tough eight-run loss on Friday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of the Detroit Country Day Yellowjackets by a score of 9-7 on Tuesday. The Vikings have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Katelynn Cole spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and five unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jessica Fick and Melanie Bigham did some serious damage despite the final result: Fick got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one double, and one RBI, while Bigham went 2-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Bigham has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Leyla Wilk, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Walled Lake Central's defeat dropped their record down to 14-18. As for Detroit Country Day, their victory bumped their record up to 8-15.

Looking ahead, Walled Lake Central is taking a road trip to challenge North Farmington at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Detroit Country Day does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
