Basketball Game Preview: Northampton County Jaguars vs. North Edgecombe Warriors

Northampton County has gone 9-1 against North Edgecombe recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Northampton County Jaguars will be playing in front of their home fans against the North Edgecombe Warriors at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Northampton County is headed into the game after thoroughly thrashing Southeast Halifax: they outscored them in every quarter. Northampton County took down Southeast Halifax 39-25 on Tuesday.

Kaiyah Cherry and Toccara Joyner were among the main playmakers for Northampton County as the former dropped a double-double on 11 points and 11 boards and the latter posted 12 points. Cherry has been hot, having also posted two or more blocks the last five times she's played.

Northampton County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Meanwhile, North Edgecombe waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They blew past the Vikings 69-49. The Warriors have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season.

North Edgecombe's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.3 points per game. As for Northampton County, their victory bumped their record up to 5-7.

Northampton County came up short against North Edgecombe in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, falling 69-60. Can Northampton County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
