Basketball Game Preview: Thoreau Hawks vs. Crownpoint Eagles

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Hawks challenge the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Thoreau will be strutting in after a win while Crownpoint will be coming in after a loss.

Thoreau is headed into the match after thoroughly thrashing Wingate: they outscored them in every quarter. Thoreau blew past Wingate 54-33 on Tuesday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Hawks.

Colleen Moses-Perry had an outrageously good game as she posted 25 points. Those 25 points gave her a new career-high. Madison Woodie was another key player, putting up eight points.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 72-33, which was the final score in Crownpoint's tilt against Navajo Prep on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Crownpoint can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while Navajo Prep is ranked 20th).

Crownpoint now has a losing record of 12-13. As for Thoreau, they now have a winning record of 13-12.

Thoreau was able to grind out a solid victory over Crownpoint in their previous matchup back in January, winning 57-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Thoreau since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
