Baseball Recap: Independence Takes a Loss

Independence had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 1-13 to make it six. They came up short against the Glendale Cardinals, falling 15-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-0 on Tuesday.

As for Glendale, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. The result was nothing new for Glendale, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

For Glendale's part, David Ortiz made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over four innings pitched. Ortiz has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Alexander Bustamante was incredible, firing off four doubles, two runs, and two RBI while going 4-for-4. Those four doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jose Miranda, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Independence didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 16-6 loss against Sierra Linda on the 21st. As for Glendale, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 6-3 victory against Copper Canyon on the 21st.
