Baseball Game Preview: Smyrna Eagles vs. St. Mark's Spartans

Smyrna is 1-9 against St. Mark since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The Eagles will head out to face off against the Spartans at 1:00 p.m.

Smyrna is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Delaware's top teams: Milford, who was ranked 14th at the time (Smyrna was ranked 25th). The Eagles fell 7-3 to the Buccaneers on Friday. The Eagles' loss continues a trend for the team, making it five in a row.

Liam Conway made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Trevor Ridgeway, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Meanwhile, St. Mark's strolled into their game on Tuesday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They put the hurt on William Penn with a sharp 11-1 win. That's two games straight that the Spartans have won by exactly ten runs.

Smyrna's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for St. Mark's, their victory bumped their record up to 7-0.

Smyrna suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to St. Mark's when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
