The Cheshire Academy Cats will head out on the road to challenge the Frederick Gunn Highlanders at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Cheshire Academy will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Cheshire Academy is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: Putnam Science Academy, who was ranked 19th at the time (Cheshire Academy was ranked second). The Cats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 victory over Putnam Science Academy on Monday.
Tyler Stone looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Conner Crosbie, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Cillian Morrissey, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Frederick Gunn came up short against Salisbury School on Saturday and fell 4-1. The Highlanders have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Frederick Gunn saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Miles Perez, who went 1-for-4 with one run and one double. That double was Perez's first of the season.
Cheshire Academy's win was their 19th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Frederick Gunn, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-12.
Frederick Gunn's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cheshire Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .449. It's a different story for Frederick Gunn, though, as they've only averaged .340. Will they be able to contain Cheshire Academy's hitters?
