Football Game Preview: Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes vs. Astoria/VIT Rebels

The Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes will challenge the Astoria/VIT Rebels at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Abingdon/Avon is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Princeville on Friday. The Tornadoes were just a hair shy of victory and fell 21-20 to the Princes. The loss continues a trend for the Tornadoes in their meetings with the Princes: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Astoria/VIT). They blew past Lewistown/Cuba/Spoon River Valley 49-0 on Friday. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Rebels considering their six-point performance the matchup before.

Abingdon/Avon better keep an eye on Colby Martin. He was instrumental in Astoria/VIT's win, rushing for 223 yards and four TDs on only nine carries. Those four rushing touchdowns gave Martin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Riley Foglesong, who rushed for 118 yards and a pair of scores on only six carries.

Astoria/VIT was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 368 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Abingdon/Avon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Astoria/VIT, they picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-3.

Abingdon/Avon took their victory against Astoria/VIT in their previous matchup back in September of 2024 by a conclusive 28-6 score. Will the Tornadoes repeat their success, or do the Rebels have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
