Basketball Game Preview: San Fernando Tigers vs. Sylmar Spartans

San Fernando is 2-8 against Sylmar since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The San Fernando Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Sylmar Spartans at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

San Fernando is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since January 22, 2024 on Friday. They skirted past Reseda 60-58.

Meanwhile, Sylmar came into Friday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 70-62 victory over Panorama on Friday.

Sylmar's win came from a few key players San Fernando will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Alex Reyes, who posted 14 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the most boards he has posted since back in December of 2023. Tim Tanner was another key player, going 7 for 14 on his way to 17 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals.

Sylmar's win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-13. As for San Fernando, their victory bumped their record up to 7-9.

San Fernando beat Sylmar 72-65 in their previous matchup back in December of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Sylmar's Andrew Galvez, who went 9 of 21 en route to 28 points and seven boards. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will San Fernando still be able to contain Galvez? There's only one way to find out.
