Basketball Recap: Calhoun Falls Despite Big Games from Tyriana Martin and Mariah Champion

Calhoun suffered their biggest loss since January 3rd on Monday. They came up short against the Highland Home Flying Squadron, falling 53-29. Sadly, that's the third time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 60-55 last Friday.

Calhoun's loss came despite strong showings from Mariah Champion and Tyriana Martin. Champion posted nine points along with six boards and five steals, while Martin scored 14 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Martin a new career-high.

JaNya Foster continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Highland Home, putting up 30 points in addition to six rebounds and five steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Foster has scored at least a third of Highland Home's points. Another player making a difference was Aniach Rodgers, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Calhoun's defeat dropped their record down to 8-14. As for Highland Home, the win (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 15-8.

Calhoun wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 39-29 victory against Southside on the 28th. As for Highland Home, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-31 win against McKenzie on the 28th.
