Baseball Recap: North Decatur Victorious

North Decatur's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They came out on top against the Southwestern Spartans by a score of 6-1. For the Chargers, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 victory the Spartans walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Matthew Fields spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Xander Jones was incredible, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Trenkmap, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

North Decatur now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Southwestern, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

North Decatur will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Spartans: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
