Softball Preview: Fremont Silverwolves vs. Farmington Phoenix
After both having extra time off, the Fremont Silverwolves and the Farmington Phoenix will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fremont is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 10.2 runs per game this season.
Even though Mountain Crest scored an imposing 25 runs back in March, Fremont still came out on top. Fremont sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 26-25 victory over Mountain Crest. The win was just what Fremont needed coming off of a 15-3 loss in their prior game.
Fremont let SAVANNAH PALMATIER and AUDREY COOPER loose on the outfield. PALMATIER scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in six of her seven plate appearances, while COOPER went 4-for-6 with four runs, four RBI, and a triple. Another player making a difference was JESSICA BROADBENT, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Farmington unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak last Friday. They fell just short of Taylorsville by a score of 8-7.
Lexi Crowley and Ruby Andrus stepped up to the plate in a big way. Crowley went 1-for-3 with a home run and two RBI, while Andrus scored two runs while going 2-for-3. Hannah Barton was another key contributor, scoring a run while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances.
The victory got Fremont back to even at 2-2. As for Farmington, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Tuesday. Fremont hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.5 home runs per game. However, it's not like Farmington struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.6. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Fremont couldn't quite finish off Farmington in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 and fell 10-8. Can Fremont avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
