Softball Game Preview: Fillmore Flashes vs. Vasquez Mustangs

The Fillmore Flashes will venture away from home to challenge the Vasquez Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. on Friday.

Fillmore fell victim to Santa Clara and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Saints by a score of 1-0. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 16, 2019, but that streak is no more.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Vasquez). They were the clear victors by a 27-9 margin over Santa Clarita Christian on Tuesday. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by nine runs or more this season.

Daniella Escamilla was incredible, firing off four home runs, 12 RBI, and five runs while going 5-for-5. Those five hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Faith Nasrallah, who scored two runs while going 5-for-6.

Vasquez always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .694. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Vasquez is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for Fillmore, with the defeat, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-6.

Everything went Fillmore's way against Vasquez in their previous meeting back in March of 2015, as Fillmore made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Flashes since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
