DeSoto claimed the Texas Class 6A Division II state championship with a 38-29 victory over No. 16 Steele (Cibolo) on Saturday night. It was the first time in school history the Eagles were playing in the state championship game and they made sure they weren't going to let the moment fly past them.

DeSoto's Cristian Gonzalez drilled a 24-yard field goal with 2:08 left in the game to help seal the deal and deliver the No. 3 Eagles their first state title in school history.

TCU commit Shawn Robinson put on a masterpiece in his final high school performance and posted 220 passing yards, 190 rushing yards and three total TDs.

The transfer of Robinson, a MaxPreps National Player of the Year finalist, paid off for the Eagles. Robinson finished the year with 3,414 yards passing and 28 touchdowns. He also led DeSoto in rushing with 1,432 yards and 19 more scores.

Texas Tech commit Xavier Martin of Steele put up a valiant effort and recorded 248 total yards and four TDs in the loss.
