Softball Game Preview: Nekoosa Papermakers vs. Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds

The Nekoosa Papermakers will head out on the road to challenge the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Nekoosa will be strutting in after a win while Iola-Scandinavia will be coming in after a defeat.

Nekoosa will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs on Friday, then bounced right back against Pittsville on Tuesday. The Papermakers blew past the Panthers 25-6.

Raegen Wilhorn looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on McKenzie Woodard, who went 4-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Aubrey Boerboom was another key player, scoring five runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Nekoosa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .651. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pittsville only posted an OBP of .429.

Meanwhile, Iola-Scandinavia came up short against Manawa on Tuesday and fell 7-3. The Thunderbirds have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Brooklyn Berrens was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. Another player making a difference was Katelin Rosenthal, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

The victory got Nekoosa back to even at 1-1. As for Iola-Scandinavia, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
