Football Recap: Cypress Creek Takes a Loss

If Cypress Creek was feeling good fresh off their 52-17 takedown of Pasco last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Coyotes were outmatched by the Gaither Cowboys and fell 54-3. While losing is never fun, the Coyotes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 439th, while the Cowboys are ranked 28th).

Logan Wilson threw for 32 yards. Aden Hicks was his top target, picking up 32 receiving yards.

Leading Gaither to victory were Ryan Browning and Owen Smith. Browning threw for 91 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only eight passes, while Smith rushed for 56 yards and one TD on only seven carries. Bryan Hamilton also deserves a mention for his punt return touchdown.

Cypress Creek's defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for Gaither, the win (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 8-1.

The future could be bright for both Cypress Creek and Gaither: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Coyotes will look to extend Sunlake's five-game losing streak when they meet at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Gaither will try to hand Hillsborough their third-straight loss when the two meet at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
