Basketball Game Preview: Venture Academy Mustangs vs. Marysville Indians

The Venture Academy Mustangs will challenge the Marysville Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Venture Academy's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 11 matches.

Venture Academy is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. They strolled past Liberty Ranch with points to spare, taking the game 57-43.

Meanwhile, Marysville waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They had just enough and edged out the Rams 63-60. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 302nd, while the Rams are ranked 675th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Venture Academy better keep an eye on Jordan Brooks. He was instrumental in Marysville's win, dropping a double-double with 17 points and 13 boards. What's more, Brooks also posted an 89% field goal percentage, which is the highest he's achieved since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Javeyon Brown, who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and ten rebounds.

Marysville pushed their record up to 22-7 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.1 points over those games. As for Venture Academy, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-7 record this season.

Venture Academy came up short against Marysville in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 72-67. Can Venture Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
