The Huntsville Hornets will venture away from home to square off against the Splendora Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Huntsville has three straight victories, Splendora has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Friday, Huntsville didn't have too much trouble with Nederland as they won 35-21.
Traeshawn Brown produced another solid effort rushing for 210 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 13.1 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 57 yards. Jerious Singletary was in the mix too, providing Huntsville with one TD.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Huntsville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 310 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 152 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Huntsville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Kadon Moebes and Jarmiah Peterson. Peterson also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with eight. Huntsville received some extra help from Singletary, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Splendora played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against Lake Creek, falling 54-19. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 736th, while the Lions are ranked 174th).
Huntsville will need to focus on slowing down Tj Burch, one of several Splendora players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 210 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Another player making a difference was Brayden Hinton, who threw for 274 yards and two touchdowns.
Huntsville now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Splendora, their loss dropped their record down to 2-7.
Everything came up roses for Huntsville against Splendora when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-12 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hornets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
