Basketball Recap: Nease Sets Scoring Season-High Against Clay

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Nease). They took their matchup on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 69-27 win over the Clay Blue Devils. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Nease got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jack Kuhl out in front who went 7 for 10 on his way to 15 points and four blocks. What's more, Kuhl also racked up three assists, the most he's had since back in January of 2024. Chase Phifer was another key player, going 6 of 8 on his way to 16 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Nease was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Nease, bringing their record for this year to 7-8. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.0 points per game. As for Clay, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nease will host Beachside at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Nease's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three contests. As for Clay, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fletcher at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Fletcher has four straight wins, Clay has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
