Basketball Recap: Rocky Mountain Takes a Loss

Rocky Mountain was the 60-51 winner over Erie when they last played one another back in January of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Rocky Mountain Lobos were just a bucket shy of victory on Friday and fell 67-66 to the Erie Tigers. The Lobos' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it four in a row.

Despite the loss, Rocky Mountain had strong showings from Daniel Mbadinga, who went 6 of 11 en route to 17 points and six rebounds, and Peyton Matkin, who posted 21 points and four steals. That's the most steals Matkin has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bode Nesbitt, who had 11 points.

Leading Erie to victory were Christopher Smith and Patrick Hahn. Smith went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 22 points, while Hahn went 7 of 8 on his way to 16 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Callen Gebhardt, who went 5 of 7 on his way to 11 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Rocky Mountain's defeat dropped their record down to 3-8. As for Erie, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Rocky Mountain will head out to take on Greeley West at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rocky Mountain is facing Greeley West at the right time seeing as Greeley West is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Erie, they will host Holy Family at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Holy Family knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Erie likes a good challenge.
