Baseball Recap: Perryton Takes a Loss

Perryton was the 10-0 winner over Pampa when they last played one another back in April of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Perryton Rangers fell just short of the Pampa Harvesters by a score of 6-5 on Tuesday.

Isaac Chavira spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered six earned runs on 11 hits and racked up seven Ks. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in February.

On the hitting side, Mason Carranza and Jaxten Castanon stepped up to the plate in a big way. Carranza got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, while Castanon scored two runs while going 4-for-4. Castanon is becoming a predictor of Perryton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 3-9 when he doesn't). Caden Rodriguez also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Perryton has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. The victory (which was Pampa's sixth in a row) raised their record to 13-4-1.

Looking ahead, Perryton will head out on the road to face off against Hereford at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Pampa, they will square off against Randall at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
