Baseball Recap: Girard Comes Up Short

Girard had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 9-5 to make it four. They lost 13-2 to the Anderson County Mavericks. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Indians, who until this match were averaging 3.86 runs allowed.

Zach Ward made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

As for Anderson County, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-9 record this season. Considering they have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Anderson County's side, they got a big performance out of Trent Strickland, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Jackson Harris also deserves some recognition as he launched his first home run of the season.

While Girard had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
