The Spearman Lynx will take on the Cisco Loboes at 7:05 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Spearman is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 28-27 win over Anson. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lynx.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Hudson Swan and Jailen Vasquez. Swan gained 146 total yards and three touchdowns while Vasquez threw for 122 yards and four touchdowns. Vasquez didn't just play on offense: he also made seven total tackles (1.0 for loss) and defended one pass.
Spearman didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Dallen Scroggs and Swan. Another thorn in Anson's side was Landon Sonnenberg, who forced one fumble, made 15 total tackles, and defended two passes.
Meanwhile, Cisco won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Panhandle 21-20.
Spearman better keep an eye on Colby McIlroy. He was instrumental in Cisco's win, rushing for 98 yards and one score on only 12 carries, while also throwing for 163 yards and one TD while completing 77.8% of his passes. That's the most passing yards McIlroy has posted since back in September.
Cisco was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 220 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 154 rushing yards in seven consecutive matchups.
Spearman's record is now 8-4. As for Cisco, their record now sits at 11-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Spearman has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 237.3 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cisco struggles in that department as they've been averaging 182.5 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Spearman suffered a grim 41-17 defeat to Cisco when the teams last played back in November of 2019. Thankfully for the Lynx, Gibson Hearne (who threw for 105 yards and a pair of touchdowns on perfect 7-for-7 passing, and also rushed for 37 yards) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
