Softball Game Preview: Vista Grande Spartans vs. Maricopa Rams

Vista Grande has gone a perfect 4-0 against Maricopa recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Rams at 6:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Monday, Vista Grande made easy work of Catalina Foothills and carried off an 11-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Maricopa made sure to put some runs up on the board against Catalina Foothills on Wednesday. The Rams blew past the Falcons 13-1.

Athena Nelson made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Darian Sophia Flores and Hailee Klutz - Phillips did most of the damage at the plate: Flores scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Klutz - Phillips scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. Alanee Calderon was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases.

Maricopa hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 5-2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Vista Grande's record is now 7-12. As for Maricopa, they now have a winning record of 11-10-1.

Vista Grande was able to grind out a solid win over Maricopa in their previous meeting back in March of 2018, winning 10-6. Will the Spartans repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
