Softball Recap: Gilmer County Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

The home team had won the previous eight meetings between Gilmer County and Calhoun, and Gilmer County kept the tradition alive. The Titans were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Red Devils on Friday. Considering the Titans have won ten contests by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Kenley Hartshorn was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, Layla Smith was a standout: she went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Alexis Stoddard, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3.

Gilmer County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.

Gilmer County's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Calhoun, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Gilmer County beat the Red Devils by a score of 20-4 later that day.
