Basketball Recap: Coalfield Takes a Loss

Coalfield was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Cumberland Gap Panthers 76-34. The match marked the Yellow Jackets' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Cumberland Gap was led to victory by Kolton Goins and Brady Harris. Goins went 10 of 19 from beyond the arc on his way to 32 points, while Harris almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Goins has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Neil Bunch, who posted five points along with six assists and five boards.

Coalfield's loss dropped their record down to 2-5. As for Cumberland Gap, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.

Coalfield will welcome Greenback at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cumberland Gap, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 58-50 victory against Oliver Springs on the 28th.
