5A Mid-Willamette recap October 22, 2013

West Albany extended the longest winning streak in 5A Mid-Willamette this week by beating Lebanon, 49-0. This was the team's sixth consecutive win.

West Albany took down the Warriors 49-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Jake LaCoste ran for 167 yards during the win.

South Albany's dynamic duo of Tyler Kelsch and Sean Vannostrand proved tough for Woodburn to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Kelsch threw for 166 yards and 2 touchdowns and Vannostrand had 80 yards receiving. Gabe Kerlegan helped South Albany's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 67 yards.

Vannostrand made the biggest impact on defense this week as the Rebels beat the Bulldogs. The 6-foot-1 junior grabbed 2 interceptions.

6-foot-5 quarterback Tanner Sanders of Crescent Valley is the league leader in passing yards this season with 1,483. He has also thrown 9 touchdowns. The leading receiver in the league this season is Logan Munson. The Silverton star has 26 catches for 412 yards.

Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when Silverton's Munson goes up against South Albany's Kerlegan.

An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Randy Nyquist's team takes on Corvallis. The Bulldogs are in first place, while the Spartans are in sixth place.

The Foxes made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 920 from 1,254. The improvement was the result of a 38-12 victory over the Raiders last week.
