Basketball Preview: Sabino Sabercats vs. Safford Bulldogs
Sabino is 9-1 against Safford since November of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Sabino Sabercats will challenge the Safford Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Sabino knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 18 matches -- so hopefully Safford likes a good challenge.

Caden Watkins continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 11 of 15 on his way to 27 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals. The contest was his fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brendan Gargus, who went 5 for 10 en route to 18 points and eight assists.
Sabino was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Tanque Verde only racked up nine assists.
Meanwhile, Safford came up short against The Gregory School on Friday and fell 64-56.
Safford's loss dropped their record down to 7-12. As for Sabino, they pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Sabino was able to grind out a solid victory over Safford when the teams last played back in February of 2024, winning 70-61. The rematch might be a little tougher for Sabino since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
