The Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays will head out on the road to take on the Gross Catholic Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Ashland-Greenwood comes in on six and Gross Catholic on four.
Ashland-Greenwood is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They really took it to Brownell Talbot for the full four quarters, racking up a 70-28 win. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Bluejays' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked tenth, while the Raiders are ranked 109th).

Ashland-Greenwood got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Derek Tonjes out in front who threw for 296 yards and five touchdowns while completing 81.2% of his passes. That's the most passing touchdowns Tonjes has posted since back in September of 2024. Grayson Nolan helped Tonjes out on the ground, rushing for 105 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 20 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Nolan, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Gross Catholic never let their opponents score on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Louisville 37-0. Considering the Cougars have won four games by more than 19 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Ashland-Greenwood better focus on containing Robbie Brennan and Colton Sweetmon as the pair were huge in Gross Catholic's win. Brennan gained 171 total yards and a touchdown, while Sweetmon threw for 184 yards and three TDs. Brennan also rushed for 131 rushing yards, which is notable because Gross Catholic is undefeated when he posts at least 100 rushing yards, but 1-2 otherwise.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Gross Catholic proved: they limited Louisville to a paltry two yards per carry. The team can thank Brady Shepoka for the heroic effort on defense: he. Gross Catholic's run defense has been on the up-and-up: they allowed 4.54 yards per carry earlier this season, but they've only allowed 7.03 on average over their last five games.
Ashland-Greenwood's record now sits at 7-1. As for Gross Catholic, their record is now 6-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Ashland-Greenwood has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 160.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Gross Catholic struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 179.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Ashland-Greenwood against Gross Catholic in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 47-20 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bluejays since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
