Baseball Recap: Ellicottville Comes Up Short

Ellicottville extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 6-9 in the process. They lost 12-1 to the Randolph Cardinals. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Cardinals since on Friday.

Ellicottville saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylan Benjamin, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

As for Randolph, the victory got them back to even at 7-7. With that win, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

On Randolph's side, they got a great performance from Aiden Taylor as he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Taylor has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, David Malone and Connor Braley did most of the damage at the plate: Malone went 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Braley went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Malone has become a key player for Randolph: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-6 otherwise. Wyatt Weaver was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

While Ellicottville had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
