Baseball Recap: Lanphier Comes Up Short

Lanphier had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 0-12 to make it 11. They lost 21-3 to the Riverton Hawks. The Lions were not able to make up for their loss to the Hawks from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Carter Tucker made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that he has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kysen Ray, who earned one run and two stolen bases.

As for Riverton, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-6 record this season. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Riverton's side, Lucas Beatty and Tyler Meyer made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Beatty struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits. Meanwhile, Meyer pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He is becoming a predictor of Riverton's success: when he allows at most three hits the team is 2-1 (and 2-5 when he doesn't). At the plate, Beatty got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while Meyer went 1-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those three stolen bases gave Meyer a new career-high.

In other batting news, Riverton got a massive performance out of James Stevens, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. Cole Howard was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lanphier will venture away from home to challenge Calvary at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Riverton, they will take on Clinton at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
