Softball Recap: Borrego Springs Comes Up Short

Borrego Springs extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping their season record down to 5-8 in the process. They came up short against the Julian Eagles, falling 17-11. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Tuesday (ten), the Rams still had to take the loss.

Anavey Gonzalez and Lylamae Gutierrez stepped up to the plate in a big way. Gonzalez got on base in four of her nine plate appearances with five stolen bases, three runs, and one triple, while Gutierrez went 4-for-5 with five stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI. Gutierrez is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season. Kayla Rodriguez was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for Julian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9. Surprisingly, this marked their third straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

On Julian's side, Charlee Sparks was incredible, getting on base in five of her six plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Lara Arabian, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Borrego Springs will face off against Calipatria at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Julian, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Vincent Memorial at 3:00 p.m.
